Just for clarification

Lake Louise is beautiful. The weather is good, the air is fresh, the people are friendly (even if a bit off-centre.) So people are wondering why I want to go back to Toronto…

Well, today I have to hitchhike at least once to guy buy overpriced groceries, and the whole Bow Valley smells like a bbq. Just thought I’d share that.

So, which way should I go? My options are Another 28 Days, or 28 Days Later; at least those certainly seem to make the most sense. So, anyone here know of any job opportunities for me starting September 13? Lord knows I need a good job to fill those hours.

Speaking of hours though; I finally get to play Ultimate today. Melissa, a girl who is living at the hostel this summer while she works on the highway reconstruction nearby is going to drive down to Canmore so we can get some licks in with the Bow Valley Ultimate association… and I’ve gotta say that I am stoked.

On edit:Oh hey, Cyan has a new public blog. I changed the address on my blog roll.

”No one can wear a mask for very long”

At around 8AM this morning I crossed a certain threshold. I am now two-thirds of the way through my working vacation here in Lake Louise. Now, I saw “working vacation” with a bit of an internal debate; I’ve worked more hours here than I did in my last six months back home. That being said, I’m ready to go. I don’t need to leave, but “the novelty of living in Lake Louise has worn off,” as a co-worker put it. (Linda, if you’re reading this, don’t worry. I’m not bugging out.)

I’m not sure what the internal motivation is, but I’ve been thinking about the future a lot more in the last two weeks or so. Finances, buying a condo, employment, all that stuff has been playing on my mind. At the heart of all of these reflections is the question: what am I exactly? There’s no point in denying that I underachieved horribly as a student and have been paying a heavy price since. I have no realistic chance of getting into any grad school that considers aggregate grades (although I could probably pass a “ten highest marks” requirement with ease.) Teacher’s College is doable, and I’ve always toyed with the idea of law school. But my uncertainty remains. (Continue reading…)

A rock block of Bach

Sorry to be so quiet recently. I’ve had back to back six day work weeks, and my “weekend” this week is only one day (consumed by laundry and grocery shopping) because I swapped shifts with someone.

I will have a three-day weekend starting wednesday however, so I will be coming back shortly with pictures of either Moraine Lake or Lake Agnes (and the surrounding environs.)

In the meantime I suppose I could use a blog to share some personal updates… (Continue reading…)

What kind of hotel is this?

Well I don’t quite have highspeed yet, but for some reason the wireless broadcast from across the street (which we’re allowed to use, relax…) is coming through much better today, so I can post in comfort for a bit. There’s not much to say, but there is plenty to show. I suppose I should talk about what I’m doing a bit. (Continue reading…)

Well I’m here, which is to say that I’ve arrived not that I have settled in or figured this place out. At the moment internet access is kind of sketchy so I may not be able to post photos as soon as I had hoped, sorry. I will update one way or the other tomorrow though.

My LifeFiled under: My Life, Joe in Lake Louise

I don’t know why I’ve been putting it off, but I’ve been meaning to post here for about a week now. I’m moving far far away. Ok, I’m not moving that far… just to Alberta. I have taken a job in Lake Louise, specifically in the Alpine Lodge hostel. Rest assured I will still have regular internet access while I am out there. Anyways, I thought I would share with you some of my goals for the summer:

  1. Get a tan for the first time in 13 years
  2. Lose the jelly-roll that I’ve been carrying around since university
  3. Break my six and a half year writer’s block
  4. Get my career ambitions back on track

Here’s hoping…
