Is grammar a lost art? I’m not the sort of person that looks down my nose at someone who doesn’t cross their i’s and dot their t’s, but I do believe that it is critically important to be able to communicate efficiently and effectively. It seems to me that if we all used the same set of rules and practises, that would be a lot easier.
This test is easy anyways, and I’m trying to relax a little bit after getting all strung out arguing with Paul. Nibbles to the Vanity Press.

Way to go! You know not to trust the MS Grammar Check and you know “no” from “know.” Now, go forth and spread the good word (or at least, the proper use of apostrophes).

I’m bored and restless, and since I’ve exhausted all of my political indignation for the day, I’m doing a meme instead. Below is the list of the top ten songs of the year I was born, 1981. Normally I’m proud of the fact that I’m a child of the 80’s but when I read stuff like this it depresses me. Hall and Oates?
- Hall and Oates - “Kiss on My List”
- Rick Springfield - “Jessie’s Girl”
- REO Speedwagon - “Keep on Lovin’ You”
- Santana - “Winning”
- Journey - “Don’t Stop Believin”
- The Go-Go’s - “Our Lips are Sealed”
- Squeeze - “Tempted”
- The Tubes - “Talk to Ya Later”
- Climax Blues Band - “I Love You”
- Eddie Rabbit - “I Love a Rainy Night”
In recent weeks I’ve certainly tried to post less memes and other pop-culture oriented material; but I came across this one and it spoke to me. As both a student and fan of science fiction, I just can’t resist…
Which Science Fiction writer Am I? Apparently, I am the one that I’ve been reading religiously since childhood:

I am:
Isaac Asimov
One of the most prolific writers in history, on any imaginable subject. Cared little for art but created lasting and memorable tales. |
Which science fiction writer are you?
I feel like being a populist… and I’ve got 20 gigs of storage space on my new server so it’s time for another movie meme. As usual, the prize for the winner is standard: a pint of beer at the bar of my choosing somewhere in Toronto, at the winner’s leisure. Of course, the last prize has yet to be claimed as well. Why am I doing this? Because I’m incredibly bored, and have been housebound the last couple of days due to an illness… plus, it doesn’t hurt to stir things up around here. Unfortunately I still find myself completely disinterested in political discussions, and as a general rule my own life makes for some pretty dull writings. So, here goes.
Deadline for submissions is, I don’t know… November 3rd. So here it is, another film meme: (more…)
I’ve been kind of dour recently, so I think a slightly more playful blog entry is appropriate. So, where should I go with this new playfullness? A meme? Another list/contest? Some idle musings or creative writing? Well, I’ll get to that in a few minutes. In the mean time, I think I should update some personal things…
- My resume is now online and available to the public. On the off-chance that anyone who reads me is looking for a recent graduate for a job, click on the “resume” link to the left. Otherwise it’s just not that interesting.
- My blog is now up and running at Sportslogs.com. It’s not much (and no, I had nothing to do with the design… even though Mike likes it for some reason. Check in for my latest thoughts on the Toronto Blue Jays, which will coalesce into a post three to four times a week starting during spring training, with two to three until then.

Here’s the deal on this one. Below are lyrics from 25 songs picked at random from my mp3 playlist (CRIA and RIAA please note that all songs are of course legal backups.) Without googling, or looking at my playlist if you have a copy, identify the song and/or artist. (more…)
Well, I had hoped to avoid it, but since today is a slow news day (I really don’t have anything to say about Karla Homolka right now), I figure I’ll just bite the bullet and post a little quiz thingy I got from my friend Titus over at Bloggus Maximus, who in turn picked it up from Wertz (also featured on my blogroll.) Ok, so this is simple. I’ve got screencaps from 10 movies. The first person to correctly guess all ten (or barring that, the most (deadline date will be whenever I feel like) wins a free beer, courtesy of me, at any bar in downtown Toronto. (more…)
