And now, a meme…

FunFiled under: Fun
By: Joseph @ 4:50 pm

I grabbed this from April Reign

The rules are as follows:

  • Each player creates a list of eight random personal facts/habits.
  • At the end of your post, list eight people who you want to tag to also do this meme.
  • People who are tagged will write their own list of eight personal facts/habits and, if they have a blog of their own, post these rules and their list.

  1. I routinely pull my big-toe nails back to the point I draw a bit of blood.
  2. I think about the exact same thing every night before I go to bed, and have for almost ten years.
  3. I love to spend money when I don’t earn it; and hate to spend it when I do.
  4. If I don’t eat breakfast within 20 minutes of waking, I get violently ill.
  5. I’ve been going bald since I was 18, but I didn’t start shaving my sideburns until I was 19.
  6. My most prized possession is a reproduction of a photo of Trudea playing frisbee.
  7. I’m terrified of bears, and spending 4 months in Lake Louise made it worse instead of better.
  8. Due to some adnoid “complications” I breathed entirely through my mouth until age 11, and still do when I sleep or am deep in concentration.

Blogosphere Match-game

FunFiled under: Fun, Culture and Media
By: Joseph @ 8:00 am

During a chat with Saskboy last night I got to thinking about certain members of the blogging community, and what fictional characters they reminded me of. In particular I kept coming back to Jason Cherniak as the Reese Witherspoon character from Election… not for any physical resemblance, but just the general personality. Honestly, I can picture him saying:

No, they don’t ever have to work for anything. They think they can just all of a sudden one day out of the blue waltz right in with no qualifications what’s so ever and try to take away what other people have worked very, very hard for their entire lives. No, it didn’t bother me at all.

But I digress. I’ll keep the rest of my blogger-fictional character resemblances close to my chest for now; but I’d be curious to know who some of you come up with? Who do I remind people of (Doesn’t have to be me though. I can be inscrutable to some…)

Surfballing baby…

FunFiled under: Fun, Announcements
By: Joseph @ 11:04 am

In conjunction with the NSA, I am pleased to announce that the Naked Surfball Association of America webpage is now online.

About a year and a half ago they came to me (I’m friends with some members) looking for an inexpensive webhosting option and wanted a “personal” connection. I corralled what meagre HTML and PHP skills I had and threw together a basic webpage for them, and it languished for quite some time. With increased interest in the sport they have decided to make another online “push” and to that end, I have redesigned the site using the Joomla software package. I have also created an online store for purchasing surfball merchandise, although the payment system has yet to be implemented.

I encourage you to browse around, and if you have any interest in surfball, to get in touch with the NSA to find a league in your area.

An internet scavenger hunt

Canadian PoliticsFiled under: Canadian Politics, Fun
By: Joseph @ 11:37 am

As I was catching up on my blog reading last night I came across a post by Closet Liberal that I had wanted to address when I first saw it.

In it he relates an exchange where two posters posted more of this Ontarians think they’re the centre of the universe crap which always seems to come up during cross-country debates. The only problem is that it’s complete and utter bullshit… to make my point I am proposing a scavenger hunt of sorts. All of you diligent trillium-haters, go out and find an example of this “we think we’re the centre of the universe” behaviour on the blogosphere. Go ahead… I dare you. I guarantee that for each and every example you find I can find a corresponding example of similar comments from another province.

Every day is saturday night…

FunFiled under: Fun
By: Joseph @ 6:54 pm

Picked up this meme from my friend Cyan… I know a meme is a cop-out for a politics blog; but I’ve got a lot going on in my life right now and I need a day where I don’t think about politics; and it’s going to be today.

List seven songs you are into right now, no matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re not any good but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your blog along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they’re listening to.

  1. Saturday Night by K-OS; Atlantis - Hymns for Disco
  2. Tribulations by LCD Soundsystem; LCD Soundsystem
  3. Pink Money by the Hot Springs; Montreal Noise (compilation)
  4. Caféïne by Montréal; Montreal Noise (compilation)
  5. I Feel Like Steppin’ Out by Devil in a Woodpile; Division Street
  6. BlackCity by Division of Laura Lee; BlackCity
  7. Teardrop by Massive Attack; Massive Attack… and House

Shit… forgot the tags. Ok, let’s see Scott, Mike, Jaime, Deborah, Saskboy, Wertz and Ted step up to the plate.

A break in the action

FunFiled under: Fun, Culture and Media
By: Joseph @ 4:13 pm

I’ve been writing about heavy stuff the past couple of days, so I’m going to throw up a little something-something to break the tension. Below are ten thumbnail images capture from movies. If you can identify some (or all) of these, please email me your answers. The first person to get all ten wins the prize.

Rules:All emails must include a valid return address, and if you have commented on this blog, your username. Ex-NDIP is ineligible because I don’t like him. The contest ends either upon the first completely correct submission or next friday at 4pm, and if nobody has correctly guessed the complete list I will award the prize to the earliest entry with the highest-correct total.

Prize: I’ve done these twice before, but on both ocassions the winner lived in the States. The prize remains the same: the winning entrant gets a free pint of any beer on tap at a bar to be agreed-upon with me in the Municipality of Toronto (or elsewhere in Ontario if circumstances allow.) The deadline for claiming this prize is as long as I live in Ontario.

Now, the quiz! (Continue reading…)

John Baird’s secret identity

Canadian PoliticsFiled under: Canadian Politics, Fun
By: Joseph @ 3:25 pm

You know, there’s always been something that bugs me about John Baird’s face (besides the sludge that regularly spills out of it.) I think I’ve finally figured out what it is. Note, I do not consider him a superhero…

John Baird

Mr. Incredible
