This is just a reminder that friends of mine will be doing their regular internet-radio broadcast of America’s Debate Radio tonight starting at 9pm (with live calls to commence after Bush’s speech.) The general subject of this week’s show will be the much-discussed troop “Surge.” The show is American, but it nonetheless offers a unique insight into the American perspective which is valuable to us north-of-the-border progressives. I may even sneak a call in.
I encourage you to come by the chat, or tune in and listen to the broadcast. It’s always a lot of fun.
In case you didn’t notice, I now have a “Green hosting” icon
on my left sidebar. I mention this not to gloat or congratulate myself, but out of a nagging suspicion that it’s utter bullshit. I have no reason do disbelieve Dreamhost’s claims, but I don’t see how a giant building that’s full of nothing but computers and wires can be carbon neutral. Now, I am too busy (looking for a job and an apartment) to investigate myself in any substantial way, but I am more than willing to offer yet another congratulatory beverage purchase to whomever brings me proof that these claims are true (or false.)
The first question people ask me when I get all worked up and start pestering them about the Bloggers’ Congress is usually, what is it? (Sometimes it’s “why are you bothering me?”)
This is a fair question, so I will endeavour to answer it here, and answer a few others along the way. The Bloggers’ Congress is designed to be a site where Canadian bloggers can come together and represent an organized and representative face to our larger community. It is not a Model-UN type organization. The site will provide original content along with newsfeeds and other resources for anyone interested in Canadian politics. Once the site is fully hosted a forum will be added to promote discussion. (Continue reading…)
I’ve got nothing. Nada, zilch, zero… Call it complete political burnout. I can’t muster any sort of enthusiasm or interest in politics today. Apologies all around. Anyone else ever get this feeling?
Well today promises to be long. I’ve got a job interview at two, and then I am off to Peterborough to visit the old Alma Mater. Every year there is a trivia contest held in the Great Hall and I am once again going to be representing the alumni team in our bid to eventually defeat the Faculty team.
Why go all the way to Peterborough just for a two-hour trivia contest? Because trivia is perhaps the thing in this world that I am best at; and being unemployed the desire to excel at something gets rather strong.
See you all tomorrow!
My server is being kind of spastic today, so don’t be surprised if things run at less than peak efficiency.
On a related note, if anyone can explain how www.canadasdebate.com can be unreachable, while surfball.canadasdebate.com (which is actually hosted at “www.canadasdebate.com/surfball”) is not; I would love to hear it. It happened to me earlier today, and I even confirmed it with a friend at another location.
Oh, and check out the Naked Surfball Association webpage, and their new online store.
In conjunction with the NSA, I am pleased to announce that the Naked Surfball Association of America webpage is now online.
About a year and a half ago they came to me (I’m friends with some members) looking for an inexpensive webhosting option and wanted a “personal” connection. I corralled what meagre HTML and PHP skills I had and threw together a basic webpage for them, and it languished for quite some time. With increased interest in the sport they have decided to make another online “push” and to that end, I have redesigned the site using the Joomla software package. I have also created an online store for purchasing surfball merchandise, although the payment system has yet to be implemented.
I encourage you to browse around, and if you have any interest in surfball, to get in touch with the NSA to find a league in your area.
